HIL to HIL, 2026

Seminar week FS26
During the seminar week “HIL to HIL,” we are developing a building-specific furniture system made from surplus ceiling panels, thereby investigating the architectural and circular potential of components reclaimed during the renovation of the HIL building. The project centers on the upcycling and transformation of a previously anonymous standard component—which would otherwise be discarded—into identity-forming, functional everyday objects ranging from shelving landscapes to coat racks. This initiative combines design research, prototypical material experiments, and digital planning tools with the principles of the circular economy. Throughout the process, we examine constructive strategies such as joinery, reconfigurability, and structural integrity, alongside questions regarding service life and material aging.
